Langford trials are informing a domestic ethanol pathway.
Following tariff changes and disruption at the UK's two domestic ethanol plants, ORE is developing a competitive, homegrown pathway using non food broomcorn fibre to reduce dependence on imported ethanol. Trials at Langford, Bristol, are informing the planned pilot line.
Precision compost broomcorn trials are under way at Langford. Aminu reports higher yield and lower carbon intensity in the early results.

Techno economic assessment
ORE has completed a techno economic assessment comparing broomcorn with wheat straw and corn stover to inform feedstock and development decisions.
Life cycle modelling
Completed life cycle assessment draws on low fertiliser and irrigation inputs, residue feedstock and published wheat straw and corn stover pathways. This work can support a technical pack, which is not yet ready.
Pilot preparation

Techno economic and life cycle comparison
Completed TEA and LCA comparisons cover broomcorn, wheat straw and corn stover. These assessments, agronomy trial data and RTFO criteria can form the basis of a technical pack, which is not yet ready.
Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation review
ORE's development case includes a residue based pathway intended for double counting under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation. RTFO validation is planned, so certificate treatment remains to be confirmed.
Pilot line
Langford is the intended location, with scope and timing to be set after ORE chooses the conversion route.
Intellectual property
Aminu estimates that preparing the IP package will take six to ten months.
